The spokesman for Sports of the Popular Parliamentary Group, Javier Merino, has considered “a great social advance” the signing of the first collective agreement for women's football because “the professionals of this sport will have recognized labor rights and guarantees that they did not have before”.
After the signing of said Agreement in the Congress of Deputies, which was attended by the spokesperson of the GPP, Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo, the vice secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, and the spokesman for GPP Sports, Javier Merino, Merino himself He highlighted the work done by the Association of Spanish Footballers and the Association of Women's Clubs to achieve this agreement based on objectives shared by the GPP.
“The collective agreement of women's football constitutes a great advance for the achievement of the principle of equality in sport,” said Javier Merino, who said that the text guarantees “the participation and job stability of professional athletes that so far they lacked a legal framework to regulate their employment status with their respective football clubs, suffering unfavorable working conditions. ”
