The mandate to negotiate the future relationship of the European Union with the United Kingdom has been approved

The Government of Spain is satisfied with the approval of the mandate to negotiate the future relationship of the European Union (EU) with the United Kingdom.

Once again, unity has been preserved at 27 before the important new stage that opens. This new mandate is strong, balanced and broad enough to grant the necessary margin to the negotiator, Michel Barnier, and his team to achieve the desired objectives.

The Government of Spain will defend the interests of Spain and the Union in this negotiation with the hope that it will lead to a deep and ambitious future relationship with the United Kingdom, for the benefit of European citizens and companies.

Finally, Spain reiterates the importance of guaranteeing the effective application of the provisions of the Withdrawal Agreement regarding citizens' rights.
