The Minister of Economy and Business, Nadia Calviño, said Tuesday at the informative breakfast organized by New Economy Forum that the forecasts of GDP growth in Spain for 2018 are “high” and “superior” to those of the euro zone as a whole , of the European Union and of the main economies of our environment. Minister Nadia Calviño, who has made an analysis of the current situation of the macroeconomic panorama, has indicated that "Spain is in a positive phase of the economic cycle and that the growth of the Spanish economy is based on solid foundations." Likewise, he explained that all international organizations and analysts expect Spain to remain on the path of recent years, so “it is not appropriate to send alarmist messages about a change in trend” and that the economic indexes confirm the forecasts.
The Minister of Economy and Business has also referred to the challenges and imbalances that remain to be resolved. In this regard, he has indicated that it is the "opportunity" to implement ambitious policies that lay the foundations for "sustainable and fair" growth and to change economic policy. In addition, he stressed that the Government works in the long term so that an eventual new crisis "does not result in the destruction of thousands of jobs and the wealth of an entire generation."
In this sense, Nadia Calviño has pointed out that the Government is betting on budgetary stability and an agenda for change with economic reforms in the medium and long term “that finds the balance between budget consolidation and the necessary level of public spending ”, While promoting social cohesion and fighting against inequality. Minister Nadia Calviño has mentioned as priorities of the Government the fight against child poverty, closing the gender gap, reducing precariousness in the labor market, and allocating more items and resources for education, research, innovation and science.
