State Society Lotteries and State Betting (SELAE) and the Royal Spanish Academy of Language (RAE) have signed an agreement whereby the state society will sponsor this congress, which will be held in November and will bring together the 23 academies of the existing Spanish language.

The congress, organized by the RAE, will be held from November 4 to 8, 2019 in Seville and will bring together the 23 academies of the Spanish language that are spread across four countries on four continents, together with representatives, as observers, of Spanish-speaking communities in other countries.

The act of signing the agreement was chaired by the acting Finance Minister, María Jesús Montero. The agreement has also been signed by the director of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) and ASALE executive president, Santiago Muñoz Machado, and the president of the State Society Lotteries and State Betting (SELAE) , Jesus Huerta.

María Jesús Montero stressed that the Spanish language is "the most precious intangible asset that Spain has" and encouraged the Government, institutions and speakers to "promote, protect and take care of it". In that sense, the acting minister recalled that Spanish has been since the thirteenth century among the great languages of culture.

Montero pointed out that the Spanish language is "an invisible link" that "unites and binds" peoples and countries from different continents. An importance that goes beyond the only cultural scope to also become an economic asset that favors commercial relations between Spanish-speaking countries.

New panhispanic program

This event takes place every four years and is the most important joint event that brings together the academies of the Spanish language. In the appointment of the next month of November the fundamental lines of the academic action in the institutional, linguistic and literary scope will be decided.

At the Seville Congress the academies will approve a new pan-Hispanic program to face, with renewed approaches, the current and immediate challenges of the Spanish language.

In addition to the strictly academic content, the congress will include an extensive cultural program, with the participation of academics and open to all citizens, through which it is intended to strengthen the relationship of the academies with society. The congress will be a good occasion to make more visible the functions of public service that the RAE develops, with projection throughout the Spanish-speaking world.

With this sponsorship, Loterías y Apuestas del Estado reinforces its objective of giving back to society a social benefit through the promotion of Spanish culture inside and outside our borders.

The agreement signed is a commitment to the unity, integrity and growth of the Spanish language, one of the richest in the world. Loterías y Apuestas del Estado demonstrates its commitment to the dissemination of the Spanish language and culture and the promotion of academic Hispanism.

With this type of initiatives, the state society fulfills one of its main objectives, such as supporting culture and education, which are the main instruments for the development of societies.
