The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has awarded the "Food of Spain for Best Wine, 2019", to the wine "Fino Capataz Solera de la Casa", of Bodegas Alvear SA, of Montilla (Córdoba), of the Denomination of Origin Montilla-Moriles.

In the awarding of this award, a jury made up of people of recognized prestige in the wine sector, who chose the winners among the best rated wines in the 2019 Bacchus International Contest, participated. With this award, the Department recognizes the work of this sector.

The Fina Foreman Solera de la Casa is a wine made from grapes of the Pedro Ximénez 100% variety, by biological aging (under flower veil) for more than six years in American oak barrels, through the traditional system of criaderas and soleras with newspaper bags and sprays. It should be noted as a peculiarity that, when made from grape musts from the Pedro Ximénez grape rich in sugars, it is not necessary to drink them in any of the phases of their elaboration and aging.

Alvear, founded in 1729, is today one of the most prestigious and internationally recognized wineries in Andalusia. Located within the Denomination of Origin Montilla-Moriles.

Throughout its history, the Alvear winery has retained its family character while maintaining its roots. It is worth noting the brave wager of the winery to create a new line, which has resulted in a very peculiar wine with flavors between a fine old man and a young amontillado, more adapted to the tastes of current consumers.

In addition Alvear distributes its brands throughout the national territory, its main market being the Mediterranean area from Catalonia to Algeciras. The winery sells 40% of its production outside our borders to more than 25 different countries, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Japan, Canada and Australia.

Food awards from Spain

With the convocation of the Food Awards of Spain, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food recognizes the excellence of Spanish food products, and the work developed by professionals and entities that contribute to the production, transformation, use, marketing and dissemination of same.

The Food of Spain Award for Best Wine is a show of support from this Department to this product and to the wine sector in general, whose commitment to quality is indisputable.
