• The contribution will be used to expand the EBRD investment program in countries of the Mediterranean basin and will strengthen Spain's cooperation with this strategic region

The acting Minister of Economy and Business and president of the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Nadia Calviño, and the president of the EBRD, Suma Chakrabarti, have signed an agreement whereby Spain contributes two million euros to the Technical Assistance Fund for countries in the SEMED region. This region includes Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon.

With this contribution, Spain facilitates the EBRD investment program in this area and contributes to the development and well-being of strategic economies for our country. The funds will be given as a priority to support renewable energy, public transport, water supply and treatment projects and others that favor refugee communities from Syria and settled in the region.

Spain thus regains its position as a solidarity shareholder and becomes, together with Finland, Norway, United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands, one of the main donors of this Fund.
