The Reserve and Security Group of the Civil Guard has performed more than 7000 services in support of other units during the State of Alarm

The ARS is made up of 8 Reserve and Security Groups deployed throughout Spain and by the Cavalry Squadron

The Director General has traveled to Valdemoro (Madrid) where the headquarters of the GRS1 Madrid and the Squadron are located to learn about their work during the State of Alarm.

The Director General of the Civil Guard, María Gámez, held a meeting today with those responsible for the Reserve and Security Group, GRS 1 and the Cavalry Squadron to learn first-hand about the work they have carried out, especially during the Alarm State.

The ARS is the main reserve unit of the Civil Guard, specially conceived, prepared and organized to fulfill the specific mission of prevention, maintenance and, where appropriate, restoration of public security. It is designed for temporary employment in support of other units.

Precisely this function of support, above all, to our citizen security units, is the one that has been developed most intensively during the months of the State of Alarm with the aim of guaranteeing compliance with the confinement regulations, face-to-face assistance to especially unprotected groups such as the elderly and the protection of pharmacies and retail trade against possible thefts. In this case, the Barcelona GRS4 has also collaborated in setting up a field hospital in Sant Andreu de la Barca.

Also, during dates indicated as Easter or the May bridges, they have deployed numerous devices to prevent possible unauthorized movements.

In total, they have carried out more than 7,000 support services for the citizen security units of the Civil Guard.

The ARS is made up of 8 GRS (Reserve and Security Groups) deployed throughout the Spanish geography and the Squadron, each of them has a UPI (First Intervention Unit) CBRN that has also been very important to carry out disinfection of different places.

As the different phases of de-escalation have been developed and little by little it has returned to a certain mobility of citizens, the ARS has once again been required to carry out its usual missions, such as supporting research units in the development of police operations, the surveillance of the Nuclear Power Plants that the Army has been in charge of during these months, under its technical criteria, within Operation Balmis, has also been resumed, and they have also participated in operations such as the search for the so-called “ rambo de Requena ”, surveillance in Galicia within the fire prevention campaign, the maintenance of public order in the Levante-Sevilla football match, among others.

María Gámez has highlighted the importance of having reserve units such as the ARS, with specially qualified personnel who, in this specific case of the situation generated by the covid-19, have been absolutely versatile to perform various functions for which they have even He had to adapt his usual operating procedures to give fundamental support to the rest of the Corps units, especially those of Citizen Security. For this, he congratulated them, since they have demonstrated, once again, the ability of the Civil Guard to adapt to any contingency that may arise to guarantee security and aid to citizens, especially in these hard months that we have had happen.
