The Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, has participated in the meeting to prepare the 2021-2022 Xacobeo National Tourist Plan, which aims to serve as a lever to reactivate this tourist destination and promote the Caminos de Santiago, generating a unique product in what will be a great tourist and personal experience.
For Minister Reyes Maroto, with this project that is taking its first steps today, “it is intended to reinforce the development and consolidation of the Xacobeo tourism product from a perspective of sustainability, inclusive, digital, quality and safe, in short, a commitment to the tourism model that we want for the future. Furthermore, this plan is a unique product that will strengthen our image as an international tourist destination ”. As the minister has pointed out, this project "unites territories and people who will be connected by a unique experience of personal reunion and also with the diverse heritage, historical and cultural wealth of our country."
At the meeting, chaired by the minister, the Secretary of State for Tourism, Fernando Valdes, and connected telematically representatives of tourism of the Autonomous Communities. In addition, it has had the participation of Xose Manuel Santos Solla, Professor of the Department of Geography and Land Management at the University of Santiago who has made a presentation on the importance of the Camino de Santiago in its tourist and spiritual aspect that the road has for many believers.
The minister explained the main actions that the plan will have, such as: the rehabilitation of real estate of historical heritage with tourist use to make them sustainable; tourist sustainability actions of the destinations; measures to promote and prioritize plans in the destinations that are part of the Caminos de Santiago. In addition, the model of the network of smart tourist destinations will be expanded and actions to promote Xacobeo 2021-2022 will be carried out both nationally and internationally.
Finally, Maroto explained that collaboration agreements will be signed with public and private entities to support projects that contribute to the development of the tourist product and the commemoration of the Xacobeo year.
