United We can demand that the Government intervene immediately in the situation of Alcoa

The Confederal United Parliamentary Group We Can – In Comú Podem – Galicia In Common has sent this Monday three letters to the Ministry of Ecological Transition, another to the Ministry of Industry and another to the Ministry of Labor to demand what they have requested all this time, to intervene Immediately for the resolution of the conflict and to paralyze the application of the ERE leaves the workers of Alcoa on the street.

Noelia Vera, spokesperson for Podemos, has announced that "as there is no clear way from the Congress of Deputies to speak with the ministers, because it still has no activity, we have decided from our parliamentary group to send three letters to demand a solution for the Alcoa situation »

In this way, with these letters, a serious problem is transferred to the ministers before the paralysis of the Congress of Deputies.

The text sent by the Confederal Group says the following: we request the intermediation of the Ministry of Ecological Transition to urgently implement the necessary measures for the industrial project put on the table by Parter for the Alcoa plants in A Coruña and Avilés, is economically viable and guarantees the continuity of the activity and of the jobs in both factories ».

These measures include the implementation of a regulatory framework in energy matters, since the need to intervene and change the formation of energy prices in Spain is unavoidable, and this must be done through the approval of the Statute of the Electrointensive Consumer, a Royal Decree that has been paralyzed since the draft was submitted by the Government, on March 18, 2019, a project that after being submitted to a public hearing has received numerous allegations, and through which a competitive price of energy for companies regardless of the intensity of their consumption, and for consumers.

In addition, the Confederal Group requests the Ministry of Labor to adopt the necessary measures to paralyze this extinctive ERE, while negotiations continue, and mediation to maintain jobs.

In the case of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, which is in negotiations with the company and workers, United We can request that endorse the industrial project put on the table by Parter for the Alcoa plants in A Coruña and Aviles, and either through audits or other measures deemed appropriate, and to ensure the viability of the project, the continuity of the activity and the jobs in both factories.

The spokeswoman for Galicia en Común, Yolanda Díaz, stressed that the situation of Alcoa is "extremely serious" for this reason, from the Confederal Group, "we are asking for action and intervention by the State through the SEPI to avoid what Alcoa wants to do , which is to keep a market share ».

For its part, spokeswoman of Podemos, Noelia Vera, insisted that "the Government has to protect a sector that is absolutely strategic as is the production of aluminum, if we want to carry out all these measures for the Energy Transition that also the Socialist Party says to want to do ».
