- He recalls that “this old demand of the Police that has not been attended to despite the commitment of the Minister of the Interior, has an impact on a lower police presence in the streets, diminishing citizen security, for which it is urgent the immediate authorization of hospital modules in the main healthcare centers in Seville and even in the Military Hospital "
Seville, November 6, 2020. The VOX deputy for Seville in the Congress of Deputies, Reyes Romero, has submitted a question to the Government to explain its plans in relation to the lack of prison hospital modules in Seville.
Romero, who together with the Andalusian parliamentarian of VOX Benito Morillo, has met with representatives of the Jusapol police collective, including Joaquin Martin Alvarez, provincial secretary of JUPOL and Agustin Alvarez Calvente, Regional Secretary for Occupational Risk Prevention and delegate of the National Police Safety and Health Commission, explained that “ exist in Spain at least 41 hospital modules for health care for detained persons. However, the province of Seville lacks them, despite the high number of inmates it has in the penitentiary centers located in that district. It so happens that in January 2019, the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande Marlaska, announced the creation of a penitentiary module for prisoners in Seville To date, no steps have been taken to make such an announcement ”.
The VOX deputy has pointed out that "the lack of this type of facilities for prisoners forces the Police to allocate a good part of its available agents to hospital custody, which has caused the city to stay on more than one occasion with one or two patrol cars for all incidents on the street. To date, the protocol requires the use of dagents and a vehicle for each inmate who is hospitalized, with the consequent loss of service and, as a consequence, a lesser presence of the National Police in the streets that guarantees the safety of all Sevillians ”.
Romero has asserted that "this custody service for persons deprived of liberty in hospitals is increasing to unbearable limits, forcing the Police to dedicate numerous agents and police vehicles to provide a service that is not called into question but that reduces the workforce of citizen security, as important as the custody of detainees, but you cannot dress a saint to undress another fully affecting the quality of an essential service for every society such as street safety, hence the urgent need to assume this ancient claim that part of the police themselves and that the Minister keep his word and urgently enable hospital modules in the main hospitals of the city and consider the creation of a specific module in the old Military Hospital of Seville ”.
