VOX Ceuta has been warning for months: the health resources in the city are insufficient to face the Covid-19 pandemic and its consequences. However, nothing has been done since March and now Ceuta's health care is overwhelmed. Material means are lacking, space is lacking and, most importantly, human resources are lacking, and meanwhile the number of those infected with coronavirus increases daily as well as income from this cause.

But Ceuta cannot wait any longer and, for this reason, VOX once again reiterates its request to enable areas in the old Military Hospital in order to install a field hospital, as was done at IFEMA in Madrid. It also insists on the need to have the presence of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) in the city for disinfection and support in the control of the State of Alarm measures. In addition, the training warns that it is urgent to retain the physicians who are in the city with precarious contracts to prevent the continuation of the escape of specialists. Something that the Sánchez government has been promising for months, and has indicated this to VOX questions, and that has not materialized.

Since the beginning of the State of Alarm, the two VOX parliamentarians from Ceuta have been especially aware of the deficiencies in the Ceuta health. After declaring the State of Alarm, the deputy and the senator asked on several occasions about the protection material for health workers, demanded that they be considered a priority group to submit them to diagnostic tests, and demanded more means to care for those infected with Covid -19.

"The Government applies measures from the 16th century with a curfew when what is a priority is to protect our health workers ”, denounces the national deputy of VOX for Ceuta. For López, “it is not that it is necessary, it is that it is urgent to provide health workers with material and human means of protection in the current pandemic scenario”.

For Merelo it is urgent that the Government "dispense with ideological beach bars and use that money to carry out more tests." And it is that, the senator warns, "you can not confine everyone, only those infected", as well as improve their control to prevent the virus from spreading uncontrollably.

Lack of healthcare professionals

In recent weeks, in addition, the work of the parliamentarians has intensified to urge the Government to solve the deficiencies and learn about the capacity of the health system to face the second wave of infections. To the questions of the deputy, the central government has assured that the situation is under control and that Ingesa has contingency plans to guarantee health care. Regarding the templates, the Executive has said that Ingesa has increased them as planned in its contingency plans. Of course, it has not given numbers or specified in which areas new personnel have been hired. Meanwhile, the unions insist on the lack of personnel and the overload of the personnel, and even today a medical strike takes place that will be repeated monthly if there are no improvements.

More specifically, López has asked to know how many intensive care physicians, who usually attend the ICU, the University Hospital has and if the Government considers the number of specialists sufficient in the event that ICU beds had to be doubled and taken to 200% as consequence of the increase in Covid-19 patients. At the moment, there are already eight admitted to the ICU, which initially had seven beds.
