VOX has demanded, in the Defense Commission held in the Upper House, that a special bonus of 20% of the base salary be granted for three months to all members of the Armed Forces who have participated in Operation Balmis. The initiative was intended to join the PP proposal for an extraordinary bonus on Social Security contributions and contributions to social security systems, as well as a complete exemption from personal income tax on the wages received by the military who were in Balmis during the months in which they participated in this operation.

However, the PP has rejected the VOX amendment, understanding that it was a different proposal and claiming that, otherwise, it would not be "feasible" to carry out its initiative due to economic reasons. Although, in the end, the proposal of the popular has not gone ahead either when the votes are against the socialists and their government partners.

From VOX, the senator for Ceuta, Yolanda Merelo, has defended the need for an "additional" recognition beyond "a mere tax exemption" as proposed by the PP. "This would be just a small way of recognizing the Herculean effort that the military of our country carried out during 98 days in the service of the general interest," Merelo stressed, adding: "An effort that was produced and that, in light of the indicators, it seems we are going to specify again ”.

Finally, the Ceuta senator recalled that VOX will be "always in favor of any economic measure that improves and increases the salary of members of the Armed Forces, and not only in times of epidemic." Not in vain, he pointed out, VOX has been “the only party that has presented a Proposal of Law for a unique military career, so that not a single professional is expelled upon reaching 45 years of age, and an NLP for an equalization salary of the members of the Armed Forces ”.
