Madrid, June 3, 2019. The president of VOX, Santiago Abascal, has registered this Monday three writings destined to gather from the Public Administrations the set of information relative to the "supposed negotiations, conversations and / or contacts" with the terrorist band ETA maintained under the presidency of the Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, whose appearance in the Chamber the VOX deputies study.
Accompanied by the general secretary of the VOX Parliamentary Group (GP VOX), Macarena Olona, and by the senator of the formation Francisco José Alcaraz, Santiago Abascal has registered in the Congress three writings signed by himself and the spokesman of the GP VOX, Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, addressed to the Ministry of the Interior; to the presidency of the Government; and, finally, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation.
In these writings, "all the records, notes, reports and existing documents" are claimed in the Interior and Presidency archives -particularly in the General Directorates of the Civil Guard and the National Police- referring to the alleged negotiations held under the presidency of Rodríguez Zapatero with the terrorist group ETA during the years 2005 to 2007.
VOX underlines, in this sense, the importance of having the documents seized after the arrest of the ETA members Francisco Javier López Peña, Thierry Y Ramón Sagarzazu Gaztelumendi, as well as information known as 'Papers from France', which refers to the documentation seized by France from the terrorist group (7,000 documents and pieces resulting from anti-terrorist operations in French territory) sent to Spain last 2018.
In addition, and already in the third registered letter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is requested to apply the cooperation agreements with the Swiss authorities to collect the same information (minutes, notes, reports …) held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Henry Dunant Foundation (recognized as a mediator in the misnamed peace process and elected as 'Fedataria' of the 'dissolution' of the terrorist band by the ETA organization itself). In this letter, the foundation is asked for all the information related to conversations and contacts maintained between the Government of Spain and ETA during the years 2004 to 2011.
These requests for information are presented in accordance with the provisions of Article 7 of the Regulations of the Congress, which states that "the deputies may collect from the Public Administrations the data or reports held by them" so that they can comply with the exercise of his parliamentary activity. Once the request has been submitted to the Presidency of the Bureau, the requested Administration must provide the requested documentation within 30 days or, otherwise, inform the Presidency of the Congress of the reasons that prevent this information from being provided.
Other actions are not ruled out
Once the requested information has been obtained, and based on the conclusions that can be drawn from it, VOX will study the implementation of other parliamentary mechanisms within its reach, such as the request of a Commission of Inquiry to include, among others, the former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero; the former president of the Basque Parliament Jesús Eguiguren and the etarra Josu Ternera.
