The deputy of the Parliamentary Group VOX Valencian Community, José Luis Aguirre, has requested today, during the plenary session, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Mireia Mollà, to speed up the registration of the red alga (rugulopterix okamurae) in the catalog of exotic species invasive and to take measures to stop their expansion on the coast of the Valencian Community because in the future it could generate serious damages to Valencian fishing as is already happening in Andalusia.
Aguirre has asked Mollà about the steps that the Ministry is carrying out in this regard, since “this algae devastates the marine ecosystem of the places it reaches and seriously affects key sectors such as tourism and fishing ”.
The VOX deputy has insisted that, despite the constant complaints from organizations in the sector, the Spanish public administrations have not paid enough attention to this matter or given it the appropriate solution. "This algae is a real ruin for artisanal and coastal fishing and the Valencian Government is fully competent to prevent and manage this catastrophe ”.
