VOX Granada insists on the need to authorize the anti-hail nets above the 900 level in the Alpujarra of Granada and which today continues to be the only element available to farmers in the area to save their crops in the face of a hail storm.

Cristina Jiménez, VOX spokeswoman at the Granada Provincial Council, has once again urged administrations to authorize the meshes "as elements that save farmers from not going bankrupt, from the economic bankruptcy of many families who only have income from the countryside . Given the serious situation we are facing, we must insist that Proposition No of Law (NLP) that VOX will present at the Junta de Andalucía be approved. In turn, from the County Council we want to know the traceability of the motion that we present in this regard and that was approved unanimously by the members of the plenary session.

VOX Granada is aware that "many of the farmers in the Alpujarra have been penalized for using the nets, despite the fact that it is the only way to save their crops and safeguard their livelihood, for this reason we request to suspend the sanctioning procedures and those initiated until the regulatory situation is clarified ».

In February, the plenary session of the Granada Provincial Council, on the initiative of the VOX provincial group, unanimously approved a motion in which it was agreed to promote an institutional declaration in support of the agriculture of the Alpujarra, of its ecological and environmental value , and its importance to avoid rural depopulation, as well as that the governing authorities of the Plans of the National Park and the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada be urged to authorize the placement of anti-hail netting from June to September at levels higher than 900 meters.

Cristina Jiménez requested that the Provincial Council raise this issue with the Department of the Environment of the Andalusian Government, so that it is the Department itself that regulates and allows the use of these meshes at levels greater than 900 meters. In addition, given the situation of farmers' defenselessness, he urged the suspension of more sanctioning procedures, as well as those already initiated, while clarifying the regulatory situation of anti-hail nets.

For VOX spokesperson at the Granada Provincial Council, “the unique character of the Alpujarra, in a high mountain environment, makes it one of the province's greatest ecological heritage. Its climate and its enclave allow that, one of the economic engines of the Alpujarra as it is agriculture, they are not needed of the use of phytosanitary, producing crops of high ecological value that are respectful with the environment. But not all are advantages for the Alpujarra producers, and it is that, due to the altitude and proximity to Sierra Nevada, hailstorms are often produced between September and June that literally devastate cherry tomatoes, zucchini, the beans, the peppers and other so many crops of the farmers of the region ”.
