Madrid, November 12, 2020. The Madrid Assembly has given the green light to the first tax reduction of the legislature. It is a Law Proposal promoted by VOX that will benefit thousands of Madrid families.

VOX thus fulfills one of the commitments acquired with its voters: a reduction in taxes that, in order not to increase the debt, also entails a reduction in superfluous political spending. "The commitment assumed with our voters is and will always be the guide of our political action," recalled Ana Cuartero in the plenary session of the Madrid Assembly.

The deputy spokesperson of VOX defended the taking into consideration of the Proposal of Law on tax deductions that Citizens boycotted a few months ago after refusing to reduce expendable expenses despite the fact that the Minister of Finance, Javier Fernández Lasquetty, of the same Government, acknowledged have reached "a good deal" with VOX. An agreement that means less tax burden for the middle class.

Superfluous political spending

"Is there really no expense in the entire budget that we Madrilenians can do without? Can you look those in the hunger queues in the face and tell them that you cannot eliminate superfluous spending? ”, The VOX deputy asked. And he gave several examples: government promotion expenses (34 million euros, “half of the Isabel Zendal hospital budget”), 75 million from Telemadrid (“another hospital”), or the increase in staff that led to the creation of new ministries (117 new positions at a cost of 8 million euros), among others.

Even so, the VOX Law Proposition does not specify where spending will be reduced, but leaves that decision in the hands of the Government. "Credit withholdings will be carried out centrally by the technical services of the General Directorate of Budgets and will be carried out prior to the debate on the entirety of this Law," the document reads.

Finally, both PP and Ciudadanos have accepted VOX's proposal to lower taxes without increasing debt, by mandatorily entailing a reduction in superfluous spending. "I am grateful that they have come to their senses and have accepted that to negotiate this law – and any other – they must choose between whether they speak with us or with the left," Cuartero recalled.

The deputy spokesperson made it clear, once again, that "at VOX we are always ready to speak, defend the interests of the people of Madrid and advance in the preparation of budgets that allow families and companies to overcome this crisis." "At VOX we have been loyal to our commitment to the formation of a government that prevents the entry of communism into the Community of Madrid, but we will also continue to be loyal to our principles because only in this way will we be loyal to our voters," he concluded.
