The VOX senator for Andalusia, Jacobo González-Robatto, today criticized the Government's management since the beginning of the pandemic and the consequences it will have on the cultural sector, which, he recalled, contributes 4% of GDP.

This was done during the debate on the Motion to promote a VAT reduction in the cultural sector, to which this training has presented a amendment, in which the creation of a specific reactivation plan for all cultural activities was proposed.

"With an economy like the Spanish, which depends largely on tourism, closely related to cultural activities, the appearance of the Wuhan virus, as we all know, has been catastrophic at all levels," he added.

“If at the beginning of the pandemic the Government acted late, as a denialist of the proven evidence and ignoring what other affected countries such as Italy were saying, for example, without establishing border controls -as VOX requested-, at the present time This lack of foresight and measures according to the situation is causing the disappearance of an essential sector for our Gross Domestic Product, "he lamented.

Lack of certainty

To this, González-Robatto explained, we must add “the lack of certainty about the extension of the ERTE, as well as the foreseeable increase in taxes announced by the Government or the state in which the moratoriums for the payment of certain debts are found. when activity is lacking or is very low ».

The senator has advanced that this set of circumstances, generated by the mismanagement of the pandemic, have caused the culture sector to "live much longer than a crisis: it is doomed to disappear." Already during the summer, he explained, the patron saint festivals of the municipalities, for example, are a very important claim for tourism and cultural activity: fairgrounds, musical shows, bullfights and other events that make the municipalities experience growth punctual, "but vitally important for its economy."

Against this situation, the senator has opted for "decided policies that allow the survival of the sector, which must be in coordination with the competent administrations to establish a single plan throughout the national territory that avoids inequalities and offers an image of unity abroad. ».
