Spokesmen for both bodies have highlighted normality and citizen collaboration in the process of distributing masks in the main public transport nodes. Following is a transcript of his speech at the press conference after the meeting of the Scientific-Technical Committee COVID-19A on Tuesday:
Deputy Director General for Human Resources and Training of the National Police, chief commissioner Pilar Allué
"Those who have already rejoined work in some sectors, already finished Easter in the whole country, will have been able to verify that the National Police also maintains its active presence today in the main transport nodes in Spain. We can congratulate ourselves that both this Monday and this Tuesday morning everything has developed with absolute normality, since there has been no notable event, except that in the progressive incorporation into work activity citizen collaboration has facilitated the situation.
Normality has been the general trend regarding the distribution of masks in the transportation centers of large cities, where the National Police has collaborated with Civil Protection, the Red Cross, the Local Police and private security personnel, as well as Adif and Renfe employees.
I cannot miss the opportunity to thank the collaboration and excellent coordination that has existed between all the institutions involved, a thanks that I also extend to all citizens who are giving a great lesson in responsibility and civility on their return to work.
On the other hand, we are also aware of the enormous effort that everyone is making when staying at home. The days of confinement are accumulating, and the need to go outside and resume the previous life is increasing. But we must continue on this path. We cannot let our guard down and go back now when we have already gained so much ground from the virus.
And if I insist that we should not let our guard down, it is, above all, because we have detected that some people have an erroneous feeling of impunity at night; Some extremely unsupportive people try to breach the confinement measures at night, thinking that nothing happens for that reason: well, no, the state of alarm also continues at night, the damn virus does not understand schedules and the National Police does not, because by in the evenings we have intensified the control of the movement of people and vehicles to promote compliance with the measures contained in the Royal Decree on the state of alarm, which is still fully in force.
Another example that the National Police do not understand schedules to carry out our work is what happened to a crew of a National Police helicopter based in Valencia. When he returned to his base at the end of his service after having patrolled the city of Alicante, they flew over the town of Tavernes de la Valldigna and did not hesitate to land upon detecting a man who was walking along the shore of the beach and ignored the indications that They made him return to his home.
It is clear that at any time and place the National Police units are willing to carry out their work of protecting citizens, even sometimes from themselves, during the day and night, because they know that the helicopters of our Media Service also Airmen have joined forces with ground units to detect all those who carry out irresponsible attitudes even at night.
Detainees and acts
In the last 24 hours, 90 people have been arrested for failing to comply with the measures of confinement, which shows that citizens are becoming increasingly aware. And 4,331 people were proposed for sanction, quite a lot less than the day before, because both our presence and the daily deterrence campaign promote that people are more responsible every day.
Borders
As for the control of land borders with France and Portugal, in the last 24 hours 9,208 people have been controlled, of whom 232 have been denied entry into our country, and 6,516 vehicles have been controlled
Sextortion campaign
For the National Police, the fight against cybercrime is one of its main objectives. Our specialized units patrol cyberspace to protect them, to prevent and block all kinds of attacks that can be carried out through the Network; This is why they have intensified their work in these days of confinement because citizens spend more time surfing the Internet and cybercriminals take advantage of this circumstance to take more advantage of their illegal activities.
Today we want to alert you that we have detected a wave of emails trying to commit scams using the method called setortion. And it is a wave because, in just four days, our Cybercrime Unit has received more than a thousand emails from citizens who had tried to scam this procedure.
Sextortion is a type of online blackmail that consists of sending potential victims an email in which cybercriminals threaten to reveal photos, videos or intimate information that they would have obtained after an alleged hack of the victim's computer or mobile phone. According to criminals, the way to avoid the dissemination of that intimate information that they claim to have is by entering around up to $ 1,900 in cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin in a virtual wallet.
Please, if you receive an email of these characteristics do not make any payment or start any type of telematic conversation with the extortionists. In addition, they must block and mark the sender as spam, bring the fact to the attention of the National Police where it will be analyzed by our cyber agents.
And also related to cyber scams, be especially cautious with the offers of certain products that are sold in sales applications. We have also detected that some people, taking advantage of the strong existing demand for sanitary material, try to sell masks, gloves or disinfection equipment at very competitive prices. In addition, they try to convince the buyer with various tricks, such as having suffered an ERTE or having lost their job and cannot cope with their expenses and are forced to sell those products to survive. The form of payment is made in two parts, the first by bank transfer and a second cash on delivery. Once the first payment is made, the seller disappears and the buyers never receive the products.
Please, be wary of all those offers that circulate through the networks and make sure you are completely before making any type of payment. "
Chief of Staff of the Civil Guard, General José Manuel Santiago
"This Monday, as on any other day, the Civil Guard has been present in the cities, towns and highways of Spain in order to monitor compliance with the measures agreed during the state of alarm and guarantee the operation of essential services.
In addition, the civil guards, along with the rest of the Security Forces and Bodies and Civil Protection and private security personnel, have collaborated on Monday and Tuesday in the distribution of masks among people who move to their jobs.
As a result of its activity, this Monday the Civil Guard has identified 170,687 people and intercepted 3,261 vehicles, which led to the processing of 6,557 complaints, 3.84 percent of the total of the controlled people, and the arrest of 28 persons.
We are the first to regret these measures, especially the arrests, but we continue to find citizens who do not want to support what the rest of us do for the safety of all, for example:
- a male from Cáceres who, after being denounced on eight occasions, the judicial authority determined his admission to prison,
- Two people who, when identified in a joint police operation of the Balearic Civil Guard and the Santa Margarita Local Police, were detained as alleged perpetrators of a robbery with force because they carried various objects from an alleged robbery in the vehicle in a house and in a ship attached to it.
In another order, since the closure of our borders was decreed, the Civil Guard continues to monitor and control it. Thus, on Monday a total of 104 security devices (controls, identification points, etc.) were carried out, some in coordination with the Armed Forces, in which 891 vehicles have been intercepted and 1,182 people have been identified.
I would like to warn you again against the cyber-scams detected by our computer fraud specialists who patrol the network. Specifically, against two cases of phishing:
- One, in which, impersonating an energy supplier company, massive emails are being sent using as a hook an alleged refund of the amount of the last invoice on the occasion of COVID-19. The email seeks to click on a malicious link, through which it is intended to steal our personal bank details.
- And another in which, posing as a well-known bank, emails are sent in which, to improve the health of their customers, the recipient is informed that they will be paid "the amount of 300 euros in their account as support for buying detergents for your family. " The email seeks to incite the victim to click on a link requesting the credentials to access their online banking.
To avoid becoming victims of these crimes, let me remind you of the following recommendations:
- Always be wary of any e-mail that is not expected, that comes from an unknown address or person or that asks for personal data, passwords or pin codes.
- Compare the addresses of the sender of the mail with the official accounts of the supposed company or organization that sends it and do not click on the unknown links found in the message.
- Never respond to generic or SPAM messages.
- And, be suspicious of those messages that are poorly written or contain misspellings, as well as those that request to be completed with haste or urgency.
In short, if the message you receive raises doubts, never reply and just contact the company or body that is supposed to send it, so that they confirm its accuracy or not.
And finished. Once again, I want to encourage you to continue working with the same determination and will to overcome the situation in which we find ourselves. One day less".
