The dropout rate in Spain reaches its lowest level since data are available


The percentage of the population aged 18 to 24 who has not completed the second stage of Secondary Education (FP of Middle, Basic or Baccalaureate) and does not follow any type of training is reduced by about 14 percentage points in the last decade, 0 , 66 points less than in 2018.

This follows from the data prepared by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training from the educational variables of the Labor Force Survey (EPA) of the National Statistics Institute published this Tuesday. According to this study, the decrease in early school leaving recorded in the last 11 years is mainly due to the increase in the population that has completed the second stage of Secondary Education in Spain in this period (an increase of 14.3 percentage points) .

By sex, the data reflects that 13% of women, aged 18 to 24, have left the education system prematurely in 2019, compared to 21.4% of men. These results indicate a drop in school dropout by 1% in the case of women and 0.3% in that of men compared to the previous year.

Likewise, the analysis shows that 44.7% of the population between 30 and 34 years of age has reached the level of Higher Education (Higher Education FP or university studies), which represents the maximum value of the historical series and continues for above the European reference point of 40% by the year 2020. By sex, of the total population of women in this age group, 50.8% have reached this educational level, compared to 38.5% of men .

Regarding the permanent training indicator, the results indicate that 10.6% of the population between 25 and 64 years of age has followed some type of training in the last month. This figure represents 0.2 points more than the one registered the previous year. Women also lead this index, standing at 11.7%, just over two points higher than the men's data.
