The Municipal Group of VOX has criticized that the government team of the City of Vegas del Genil, the left-wing coalition of PSOE and IU-Now Vegas, voted against a 5% reduction in corporate salaries to show solidarity with the neighbors who suffer the economic crisis every day as a result of the COVID19 pandemic.
Juan Carlos Castro Robles, VOX councilor in Vegas del Genil, explained that «our Municipal Group took a proposal to the ordinary plenary session in November for the mayor and councilors to lower their gross salary by a symbolic 5%, thus empathizing with the the rest of his neighbors, many of whom are in an ERTE or have no income.
From VOX «we propose that the savings generated with the reduction of salaries be used to alleviate those budget items that may generate more debt in the short or medium term and, therefore, suppose a greater financial burden in the coming years, which would lead to an increase of taxes that would drown even more vegueños or a decrease in social spending.
«The measure is in favor of the residents of the municipality in a precarious situation, with uncertain and fluctuating incomes who are living with an almost unsustainable debt. For this reason, the institutions and governments, and specifically our City Council, must be closer and in contact with the citizens: the City Council's corporations cannot remain immobile and must demonstrate their sensitivity to the new situation of the vast majority of the people » , has concluded Juan Carlos Castro Robles.
