The Civil Guard, within the framework of the “Yuko” operation, has clarified, after more than a year of investigation, the murder of a businessman from La Rioja, whose body appeared semi-submerged in an irrigation raft in the town of Alfaro (La Rioja) .
Seven people have been arrested, including the three alleged perpetrators of the crime, for their direct or indirect involvement in the events. These are four men and three women, aged between 20 and 61 years and residents in the localities of Calahorra and Autol.
On September 6, 2018, the body of a middle-aged male who had violently died after being tied up, gagged and beaten appeared on an irrigation raft in the town of Alfaro.
The identification of the victim, whose disappearance had been denounced by his wife the previous day, opened multiple avenues of investigation, because a part of his friendships were dangerous criminals settled in different localities of Rioja.
Investigators determined that the crime was planned, organized and executed by a worker and trusted man of the victim, a dangerous 41-year-old criminal, who has numerous criminal records.
This person, along with two other members of his family clan, would have moved to a chicken farm owned by the victim, in the town of Alfaro, since they knew he was alone and with a significant amount of cash in his power.
Once in the place they tied and gagged the victim and forcibly introduced her into the trunk of her own vehicle, moving her to a nearby raft, where they ended her life using a white weapon. They then threw the body into the raft with a counterweight knotted at the waist to sink.
Subsequently, the now detained, collaborated in the search device that had begun the Civil Guard after denouncing the family the disappearance. Once the body appeared, the three involved ceased to have contact with each other and increased security measures to detect if they were controlled by the agents. In fact, one of them changed his residence twice and avoided being seen in public.
During the operation, investigators searched two houses in Calahorra and Autol, and arrested the seven involved in the events, which were made available to the judicial authority.
The investigation has been carried out by agents belonging to the Organic Judicial Police Unit of the Civil Guard of La Rioja, who have had the collaboration of the Criminalistics Laboratory of Madrid, the Central Operating Unit (UCO), the Central Eye Inspection Team (ECIO), the Criminal Behavior Analysis Team (EACD) and the Rapid Action Group (GAR).
