The Civil Guard detains in Malaga a radicalized person who carried out pro-jihadist activity on social networks

The detainee would have suffered a rapid process of radicalization in recent weeks, externalizing it through their profiles on social networks

In the action, a second person was also detained in order to determine their degree of participation in the events under investigation.

Agents of the Information Service of the Civil Guard, under the direction of the Central Court of Instruction number 2 and the Prosecutor's Office of the National Court, detained an individual last Friday in Malaga who had been under investigation since 2020 for his pro-jihadist activity on the internet, and to which a growing degree of radicalization and links with radical environments in the autonomous city of Melilla is allegedly attributed.

According to the investigations, the detainee would have suffered a profound process of jihadist radicalization and an evolution in the number of publications made on social networks. The subject of the audiovisual content was centered on multiple infographics extolling the jihadist cause and the figure of convicted or prosecuted terrorists, as well as symbols of the terrorist organization DAESH.

The detainee has been placed on Monday morning at the disposal of the Central Court of Instruction number 2, which has ordered his entry into preventive detention.

In recent weeks the number of these publications had increased with multiple contents invoking war and violence. Some videos even featured the detainee introducing other elements of great terrorist significance.

This increase in quantity and degree of virulence of the publications, where they even released videos that alluded to swearing loyalty to the Daesh leader, coincided in time with the physical displacement of the detainee from Melilla to Malaga.

All these activities carried out by the investigated put the Civil Guard investigators on alert, who after an exhaustive analysis of the signs and evidence found during the investigation, proceeded to their arrest.

As part of this action, a search was made of the property where the detainee was staying and a second arrest of a relative with whom he had been in contact was made. Once the appropriate investigative steps had been taken, this person was released on Sunday afternoon.

In this operation, the close relationship observed between individuals investigated for jihadist terrorism and common criminal environments has once again been revealed. In this case, the detainee was related to criminal areas in which he had even tried to acquire several weapons.

At the moment, the researchers are still carrying out analysis of the seized material, since it is one of the investigations where more propaganda material has been seized so far in recent years.
