The Civil Guard, within the framework of the CANICAT operation, has investigated a company for the illicit commercialization of domestic animals.
Three simultaneous inspections have been carried out in the towns of Palma de Mallorca, Mataró (Barcelona) and Telde (Las Palmas).
The investigation has focused on the allegedly illegal activity of a company related to the purchase of dogs. The animals came from Eastern European countries and arrived at the establishment located in Mataró, from where they were distributed to the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands.
In the inspections, carried out in the premises of the same company, it has been shown that the facilities where the animals were kept did not comply with the appropriate sanitary requirements, detecting situations of overcrowding, which even caused the death of some animal by being crushed, as well as some conditions of insecurity for them.
At the Palma de Mallorca premises, a total of 25 animals have been intervened and deposited in the facilities of the Son Reus Municipal Animal Protection Health Center. In the case of the Mataró establishment, it has been closed and sealed, as well as the filing of numerous complaints related to non-compliance with current regulations on animal welfare.
The operation has been carried out by agents belonging to the SEPRONA of the Balearic Islands, who have had the support of personnel from the labor inspection, as well as inspectors from the Livestock Service in the case of the Balearic Islands and from the veterinary and animal welfare services. in the case of Mataró, they have drawn up their corresponding minutes.
