The Civil Guard manages the delivery of food from hotel complexes to charities in the province of Las Palmas

It is an initiative that has started from the hotel management of various existing establishments in tourist areas

The collaboration consists of coordinating the management and delivery of food without violating the limitations of freedom of movement established by article 7 of RD 463/2020

The Civil Guard of the Commandery of Las Palmas has organized with the hotel complexes of the islands of Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura to manage the surplus food existing as a result of the temporary cessation of tourist activity in all establishments, ensuring their transfer and delivery to charities.

Initiative and management

As a result of the measures established in the RD of the State of Alarm caused by COVID-19 by which the temporary closure of hotel complexes has been established, the Civil Guard initiated close contact with the management of hotel complexes established in its demarcation. with the aim of enhancing surveillance and learning about their internal security management.

Among other concerns raised by the hotel collective was the destination and management of the food available to them. For this reason, the Civil Guard of the Commandery of Las Palmas led the initiative to coordinate the management of the transfer and delivery of these foods in different societies and charitable associations existing on the islands.

The first actions have already been carried out in the complexes deployed in the Puerto del Rosario Company in Fuerteventura, where up to now we have collaborated with three hotel establishments located mostly in the town of Pajara, delivering several batches of perishable food in the Food Bank of Fuerteventura.

With regard to the islands of Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, the Civil Guard is expected to continue coordinating with the hotels located in Costa Teguise and Vecindario in the coming days.
