The Popular Parliamentary Group has registered a Proposal no of Law in the Congress to alleviate the damages of the forest fires in the National Park of the Sierra de Guadarrama during this month.

The initiative, signed by the spokeswoman for the GPP, Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo, the deputy spokesman and deputy for Madrid José Ignacio Echániz and the deputy for Segovia Beatriz Escudero, urges the Government to “value all those helps that will restore the normality of the services in the area and thus contribute to defray the expenses incurred during the days of extinction ”.

In addition, the Popular Group initiative urges the Executive to “collaborate with the management body of the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park and with the Autonomous Communities involved in the evaluation of the damage caused by the fire”.

Proposal no of Law also demands the Government to participate in the actions to recover the ecological state of the natural space devastated by fire, to avoid the erosion of the land, the effects to the channels of rivers and streams, as well as to proceed when appropriate to hydrological-forest restoration and the reconstruction of infrastructure damaged by fire.

In the statement of reasons for this initiative, the parliamentarians who subscribe to it remember that “the National Park of the Sierra de Guadarrama has landscape, geological, geomorphological, hydrographic, botanical, fauna, historical and cultural characteristics unique to the national level, which they deserved in June 2013 to be included in a select group of maximum protection in Spain ”.

It is also recalled that, although Park management is the responsibility of the Autonomous Communities where the space is based, “it is the obligation of the General State administration to coordinate the National Park Network, ensure an adequate framework for the conservation of natural systems more representative and collaborate in the fulfillment of the objectives of the parks ”.
