A third person is being investigated for illegal possession of weapons
The Civil Guard, within the framework of Operation RED DOT ARLANZA, has arrested two people as alleged perpetrators of two crimes against flora and fauna and one crime of illegal possession of weapons. A third person is being investigated for illegal possession of weapons.
The Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) had suspicions that several residents of the region could be carrying out serious and systematic poaching in the area. The presence of headless bodies and the information collected thanks to citizen collaboration and the promotion of preventive services carried out on those days, allowed to center suspicions on a certain type of vehicle.
It was an off-road vehicle that moved along roads and secondary roads, combing the places of the Burgos region, in search of trophies of these deer, to satisfy a possible black market.
As a result of the services carried out, discreet monitoring and analysis of movements, the vehicle that was traveling on a road was intercepted. In it were two people who were dressed in hunting clothes and who were identified. They did not give reliability of the reason for being there, they entered into contradictions and they showed an unusual nervousness, which was increased when locating a hunting cartridge in the clothing.
The agents searched the area and found two heads of roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) hidden among the branches of a juniper and in a stream the corpse of a wild cat (Felis silvestris), a protected species for hunting, whose tail had been extracted. The vehicle was searched and equipment used in stalking this animal was found: binoculars, a telescope, a rangefinder and three knives with traces of blood.
Hidden between the back of the rear seats and the fuselage was a small hunting rifle, caliber 243 WM, ammunitioned with a cartridge inserted into the chamber, provided with a bipod for support and a silencer, a prohibited tool for hunting in Spain, as is a thermal visor that they also carried.
These two men have been arrested as alleged perpetrators of two crimes against fauna and flora, and one of them also for illegal possession of weapons. A third person, to whom the seized rifle belongs, is being investigated for another crime of illegal possession of weapons.
The heads, the body of the wild cat, as well as the weapon and the rest of the hunting gadgets have been intervened and SEPRONA has instructed the proceedings that will be delivered to the Lerma Investigating Court.
The Burgos Command will continue with this type of controls and verifications until the end of the season.
