María Gámez delivers to the Ciudad Real library the first edition in Spanish of The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin, recovered when it was going to be auctioned

The work, translated into Spanish by Enrique Godínez and published in 1877, has been delivered to the state public library in Ciudad Real, after being recovered by Seprona agents when it was going to be auctioned on a well-known collecting website.

The general director has signed a Contribution Agreement between the Civil Guard and the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real to carry out works of conservation and repair of barracks in the province with an amount of 100,000 euros contributed by the Provincial Council

He has also visited the Ciudad Real Command where he has seen first-hand the service to citizens that they carry out.








The general director of the Civil Guard, María Gámez, has delivered the first edition translated into Spanish of "The Origin of Species" by Charles Darwin to the state public library in Ciudad Real, which was recovered by the agents of the Corps when it was going to be auctioned through the internet, with a starting price of 2,600 euros.
The Mayor of Ciudad Real, Pilar Zamora; the Minister of Education of the Community Board of Castilla-La Mancha, Rosa Ana Rodríguez; the Deputy Delegate of the Government in Castilla La Mancha, María Ángeles Herreros; the Chief General of the Civil Guard in Castilla-La Mancha, Francisco Javier Cortés; and the Chief of the Ciudad Real Command, Lieutenant Colonel Juan Valle.
María Gámez explained that it is a work that is part of the Spanish Documentary Heritage, translated by Enrique Godinez, considered a work of public ownership of an old collection within the acquisitions catalog of the Provincial Library of Ciudad Real in 1912, unknown when it disappeared from these facilities.
The investigation, the Director General has detailed, which has been carried out by the Seprona Ciudad Real Team, began when the Director of the Library, Francisco Javier Alonso, alerted the Civil Guard of an auction on a well-known website about collectibles where this book was advertised for a starting price of 2,600 euros.
As a result of this information and the investigations carried out by the investigators, it was learned that this auction was organized by an antiques establishment in the city of Albacete, whose owners provided the Civil Guard with the contact of the person who owned the book at that time. .
The owner of the book, after knowing its public ownership, voluntarily returned it, explaining that it was found in Albacete in a box along with other books next to a garbage container and that it caught their attention.
María Gámez has highlighted that with the delivery to the Library of this copy we seal once again the commitment of the Civil Guard with the protection of the rich and extensive Spanish artistic heritage, a value protected in our Constitution in its article 46 and that the Corps has included as one of its most relevant lines of work within its institutional strategy. As a sign of this commitment, he has highlighted the 122 operations carried out in the last 5 years, with 337 detainees.

Sign Agreement with the Provincial Council

Subsequently, María Gámez and the President of the Ciudad Real Provincial Council, José Manuel Caballero, have signed a Contribution Agreement by which it contributes 100,000 to carry out conservation and repair works of the Civil Guard barracks in said province.
The objective of this Agreement is to promote the modernization of the official facilities of the Civil Guard, in order to offer a quality service to citizens, as well as to improve living conditions and service provision by Corps personnel.

Work meeting at the Command

The general director has held a working meeting with the commanders of the Civil Guard of the Command, who have explained the tasks they carry out and what has been their evolution in recent years, as well as the prospects and future plans.
The Civil Guard in the Ciudad Real Command is responsible for citizen security in more than 90% of the territorial extension of the province. To carry out this task, it has about 1,200 personnel and is made up of a total of 5 Companies made up of 2 Main Positions, 53 Ordinary Positions and 7 auxiliary ones.
They have Citizen Security, Information, Judicial Police, Seprona, Weapons Intervention, Traffic Grouping, and Cynological Service units to serve their demarcation. In addition, they have 5 Roca Teams.
Regarding the main criminal typologies within the crimes that generate the greatest social alarm, it is worth noting the decrease of almost 28% so far this year in robberies with force in homes and establishments and almost 30% in agricultural and livestock.
María Gámez has had a meeting with staff from all the jobs that she has congratulated for their work, especially during this pandemic and has also been able to greet some civil guards who were hospitalized for covid-19 with whom she was in telephone contact.
