The General Council of the Spanish Association of Distributors, Self-Service and Supermarkets, ASEDAS, has agreed the appointment of Felipe Medina as the new Technical General Secretary of the association.

Felipe Medina is an Agronomist and a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and joined ASEDAS in 2013 as head of the Agrifood Chain, a responsibility he has exercised so far. In addition to representing the association in different agri-food forums, both in Spain and before the EU Medina has been author and coordinator of numerous publications in recent years, is an honorary member of the Official College of Agricultural Engineers and a member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Association of Agrifood Economy.

In his new responsibilities, Felipe Medina will strengthen the activity of ASEDAS in different areas, both before the State and the Autonomous Communities, as well as before the European institutions and the various public and private partners of the association.

The General Council has also agreed to appoint the former Technical General Secretary, Antoni de Ribera, as Secretary of the Board of Directors, a newly created position. Ribera is also the Secretary General of CEDAC, the organization that represents companies in Catalonia.

Ignacio García Magarzo, general director of ASEDAS and head of the association team, explained that “In the year that ASEDAS celebrates its 20th anniversary, these changes come to reinforce a solid team that serves the supermarket model we represent: a proximity distribution model, balanced, efficient and circular. That is why we prepare, with the best professionals, to help the sector face the great challenges of the future related to sustainability, demographic evolution and digital transformation ”.
