After the mandatory veterinary controls, the tuna – suitable for consumption – will go to the Food Bank for disadvantaged people in the province of Cádiz
Last night of Friday, day 7, 15 tuna caught illegally were seized in Tarifa (Cádiz), in a joint operation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard and the Government Sub-delegation in Cadiz.
After an intense monitoring and control work of the Strait fleet, which is carried out by the inspection service of the General Secretariat of Fisheries (SGP) in Cádiz, the tuna that were caught illegally could be intercepted.
The operation was coordinated by the General Secretariat for Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, through the Government Sub-delegation in Cádiz, together with the fisheries inspection detachment of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard.
As is usual in this type of operation on the Cadiz coast, the fishing inspection service counted on the intervention of the personnel of the Rio Guadalete patrol boat of the Civil Guard, who traveled by land to guarantee the success of the operation.
The fisheries inspection monitored the illegal tuna unloading operation, which allowed the Civil Guard to intercept 15 tuna of the Thunnus thynnus species (bluefin tuna) at 11:00 p.m. last night ) that did not carry the regulatory documentation for not having passed through the fish market of Tarifa.
Thanks to the joint operation with the Civil Guard, an efficient fight against illegal fishing of bluefin tuna is guaranteed and the placing on the market of fish without the proper sanitary conditions and without having passed the relevant veterinary control that makes it suitable for its consumption, since they were transported in a non-isothermal van.
These 15 tunas, after a solidarity veterinary inspection that guarantees safe consumption and carried out by the College of Veterinarians of Cádiz, are destined for the Food Bank for underprivileged people in the province.
