In recent years, two industrial sectors, automotive and aeronautics, are gaining momentum, benefiting from the arrival of important investments by multinational companies, such as Renault, Bombardier or Boeing.

Among the factors that limit Morocco's development potential are excessive dependence on energy and the agricultural sector, little diversification, a low competitiveness industry, a poorly developed financial sector, a high level of unemployment and a very inefficient public sector.

The Moroccan government is trying to improve the conditions of the national economy with reforms and with the boost of some manufacturing sectors, especially the automotive sector, which has become the main source of exports, even above sales of phosphates. Agricultural and food products, textiles, pharmaceuticals and aeronautics and electronics are next in importance.

Foreign trade

Because of the aforementioned high dependence on foreign energy, the main component of Morocco's imports are energy products, especially those derived from oil and other hydrocarbons.

Moroccan foreign trade has as its main partner and customer the European Union, which concentrated 54% of imports and just over 65% of exports in the period 2015-2018.

The participation of Spain in these exchanges is very evident. In fact, exports and investments between Spain and Morocco already account for more than 15% of Moroccan GDP. Our exports have increased in volume (from 4,130 million euros in 2011 to 8,025 million in 2017) and as a percentage of Spanish world exports (1.9% in 2011 and 2.9% in 2017). The volume of Spanish imports has also increased significantly (3,101 million euros in 2011 and 6,284 million in 2017).

Sectors of opportunity

In the Moroccan market there are good business opportunities for Spanish companies in sectors such as components and automotive equipment, thanks to the progress of the Renault factory in Tangier, capital goods, raw materials for industry, agricultural machinery, services transportation and logistics, engineering and consulting, commercial distribution, construction and tourism.

The Government of Morocco highlights seven major advantages to attract foreign investment: competitive costs, strong and stable economic base, access to a market of more than one billion consumers, under international trade agreements such as those signed with the EU and the United States; infrastructures of international level, qualified human capital, ambitious sectoral strategies and a favorable environment for business.

Morocco is the first destination of Spanish foreign investment in Africa. In 2016, it received 43% of the "stock" of the entire continent. This country also offers investment opportunities in renewable energies and water treatment, in which there are important projects for concessions under a public-private partnership regime.

At the appointment, lThe business representatives showed their confidence that this new period that now opens up in the Extremaduran government supposes strengthening and deepening the collaboration of CEOE and CREEX with the Executive chaired by Fernández Vara, to face together the challenges facing Extremadura with the aim of equaling their levels of development, employment and welfare to the rest of the territories of Spain.

This spirit of collaboration was already transferred to the president of Extremadura by the heads of CREEX and Antonio Garamendi during the meeting held last March and where different issues aimed at promoting the socio-economic development of Extremadura were addressed. Among them, the improvement of infrastructures and communications, the administrative agility to attract investments, the fiscal pressure borne by citizens and businesses and the need to continue betting on the Social Dialogue were discussed.

From the CREEX, is confident that all these issues continue to be priority issues on the agenda of the new regional government, whose holders, in regard to the various ministries, will be known, predictably, next week.

The inauguration was held in the Plaza de los Naranjos of the Assembly of Extremadura, where Vara addressed the government of the nation to say that "Spain is in debt to Extremadura." He recalled the "enormous confidence" that Extremadura has given him in the past regional elections, "not only for the result, but for the participation, which makes us stronger when it comes to being more demanding".

He alluded to the train, "an element that, as you well know, has only begun to be resolved when public resources have been compromised so that it can be a reality." For the president of the Board, in this moment of "so much complexity" "accurate diagnoses" and also "treatments" are needed, and the answers "can be simple, but not simple", he affirmed.

In his opinion, in this scenario, effort, work and recovering lost consensus are required. Thus, he said not to understand that there are no points of agreement in Spain because "it is what the country needs" right now, "sit down to agree on those things that are essential". Spanish politicians "we owe this country" to find meeting points and agreements, and respond to issues that have to do with global challenges, more than any other consideration, he said.

Fernández Vara indicated that he contributes what he has, his experience, knowledge, years or ability to work, but above all "a vision of the country". He stressed that Spain is much more than the sum of 17 pieces, it is a country that must be understood as a society in which "everyone contributes what he has, so that each one can receive what he needs; that is the Spain in which I believe ".

Finally, he expressed the importance of flags and symbols, but "there are no flags or symbols more beautiful than equal opportunities, than the National Health System, the pension system, the Law of Dependency or anything that allows us to aspire to live in a better and fairer world, "he concluded.

The vice president of the Government of Spain, Carmen Calvo, also participated in the event; the president of the Congress of Deputies, Meritxell Batet; the president of the Senate, Manuel Cruz; the Minister of Public Works, José Luis Ábalos; and the president of the Council of State, Mª Teresa Fernández de la Vega, among other authorities.

After the ceremony, the president of CEOE was at the Teatro de Mérida to mark the beginning of the 65th edition of the Mérida Festival. An opportunity to highlight the value of inland tourism in Spain.

The president of CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, participated yesterday in the Breakfast for Talent on ideas for labor inclusion from companies and entrepreneurship, organized by Inserta Empleo, the ONCE Foundation entity for the labor inclusion of people with disabilities. The event was also attended by representatives of large socially responsible companies, such as Vodafone, Endesa Foundation, Orange and Carrefour.

Antonio Garamendi stressed that Equality in the labor integration of people with disabilities has not yet been achieved and advocated that progress be made as far as gender equality is pursued. The president of CEOE, who shared a round table with the general director of Fundación ONCE, José Luis Martínez Donoso, said that Gender equality is being achieved in companies and that this impulse continues so that it also reaches talent. "That talent, when it is mixed, is much more powerful," he stressed, adding that in diversity one should walk in the same direction.

In the act, Antonio Garamendi recalled his bet when he became president of CEOE to incorporate more women to the governing bodies of the organization, and reiterated that the Confederation will be "proactive" also in the field of social inclusion. He also stated that Technology is a "great opportunity" and, with it, the disability "is going to have a moment where the light will shine because there are really going to be opportunities that have not been there".

On the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations, Antonio Garamendi said that "we have gone from the Social Responsibility of companies, CSR, to another dimension at this time very important" due to the effect of globalization, putting in value that the objective is "Put the person in the center", At the same time he added that if companies are not economically sustainable, "they will hardly be able to act in this way".

At this point, the president of CEOE put the accent on "the management of the State" and the taxes paid by companies. "Even more effort is required and there is very little control over the efficiency of the State," he said, to lament "the amount of resources that could be applied to social issues that are currently being applied to other criteria."

In this sense, Garamendi urged Spanish companies to indicate the 'X Solidaria' in the Corporation Tax, as a "fundamental" step to advance in the integration of diversity. "We deeply believe in that model change, in the Sustainable Development Goals, ODS, and in those values towards people," he remarked, adding: "CEOE is going to be on this path, and for that reason, we also have to defend that These companies are competitive, profitable, give dividends to their shareholders and can pay their workers well. "
