SETUR and SEGIB already work together in the elaboration of the Ibero-American Tourism and Sustainable Development Strategy that will be presented in March 2020 in the framework of the Ibero-American Conference of Tourism Ministers that will take place in Andorra.

The acting Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, has delivered today in Madrid to the Mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, the diploma that accredits the Celebration of the Reconquest of the city as a Festival of National Tourist Interest.

The act, held at the headquarters of the Ministry, was attended by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Isabel Oliver, the president of the Diputación de Pontevedra, Carmela Silva, and the delegate of the Free Trade Zone of Vigo, David Regades.

The Reconquista commemorates each year the popular uprising against the French troops in 1809. It had already been declared Festa de Interese Turístico Galego in 2012. The distinction is the first of these characteristics that the city of Vigo achieves.

Social Security affiliates linked to tourism activities grew by 3.8% year-on-year in June, reaching a total of 2,618,636 members, according to data released today by Turespaña, under the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. This figure is the highest of the historical series in a month of June. The employment in the tourist activities has grown in the last year in 94.921 workers in high labor and they represent 13.5% of the total of affiliates in the national economy.

In June, the increase in membership was registered in all tourist branches: the hotel industry grew by 58,995 members (45,948 more members in the food and beverage services, and 13,047 more in the accommodation services), in other tourist activities it increased in 33,244 more members, and in travel agencies there was an increase of 2,682 workers. It highlights the positive behavior of this branch since October 2014, having been an activity that reduced its employment continuously from 2008 to 2014.

Last month the number of employees in the tourism sector, which represents 81% of the total, grew by 4.4% compared to the same month of the previous year, while self-employment (19% of the total) increased by 1.3 %.

In June, employment in the group of hotels and travel agencies / tour operators grew in all the autonomous communities. In absolute figures, the greatest increases occurred in Andalusia, Catalonia, the Community of Madrid, the Valencian Community, Galicia and the Basque Country. Turespaña has opened the tender for the drafting of a Master Plan for restoration of the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos in Santiago de Compostela, assigned to the Paradores Network, under the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.

The Plan is essential to carry out drafts in the building, which is included in the Special Protection and Rehabilitation Plan of the Historic City of Santiago. The budget exceeds 350,000 euros and includes a total execution period of fifteen months.

The Contracting Committee of Turespaña has provisionally awarded the Acciona company the rehabilitation works for the Castle and the Almudaina de Dalt Vila, which will house the future Parador de Turismo de Ibiza.

Residents in Spain made 41.8 million trips in the first quarter of the year, 2.8% more than in the same period of 2018, while their total expenditure amounted to 8,317 million euros (+ 4.4%) , according to data from the Survey of Tourism of Residents (FAMILITUR) that elaborates the National Institute of Statistics.

From January to March, 90.4% of trips had the national territory as the main destination (+ 2.1%) and the remaining 9.6%, foreign countries (+ 9.7%). Travel for leisure, recreation and holidays are still the main reason for displacement in 44.5% of cases (+ 6.6%).
